Claudia Hinz in Conversation: An Evening Discussing Her New Book, SAFEKEEPING
The Harvard Club of Dallas welcomes author Claudia Hinz, AB '90 Kirkland House, for an evening dedicated to her new book SAFEKEEPING. Set in Dallas, the novel draws upon Claudia's years in Texas as a journalist. Guests will have the chance to hear Claudia discuss the ideas, experiences and creative processes that shaped her latest work. This event is proudly hosted with the Dallas Literary Society, bringing together two communities that share a commitment to literature and thoughtful conversation.
About SAFEKEEPING
It is 2027, and with the country embroiled in multiple international conflicts, a draft has been instituted in the United States. When Tenley Ward’s 19-year-old son draws a low lottery number, she mobilizes fellow PTA mothers in Dallas, Texas, to form the anti-draft organization MOMS — Mothers Opposing More Senselessness.
Unpacking the contradictions of motherhood, the devastation of grief, the blind spots of privilege, the fuel of desire, and one’s own purpose, SAFEKEEPING is a thoughtful, poignant novel that will remain with you long after the last page is turned.
“A fast, sharp, gorgeous debut, SAFEKEEPING is, by turns, lovely and searing and brutal. With grace and insight, Claudia Hinz maps the taut practiced codes of intimacy and marriage, identity and desire, in a beautifully rendered story of the private risks a mother will take for the sake of freedom and the singular integrity of what she believes and those she loves.” - Author Dawn Tripp, Jackie and Georgia
