Join us for an engaging evening with Harvard Instructor Dr. Eugene B. Kogan as he sits down with KPMG Senior Partner Jarrod Bassman for an intimate fireside chat on the art and strategy of negotiation. Drawing on perspectives from both the private and public sectors, the conversation will explore the core principles that shape successful outcomes, with a particular focus on the roles of influence and power—when each is most effective, and how they can be thoughtfully applied in real-world situations. This promises to be a dynamic and thought-provoking discussion, offering practical insights and fresh perspective.

 

Jarrod A. Bjarrod-bassmanassman is a Partner with KPMG LLP and serves as KPMG’s Global Lead Partner for Walmart. In 2020, he was elected to the KPMG U.S. and KPMG Americas Boards. Based in Dallas, Jarrod brings deep experience advising senior executives and boards on enterprise-wide risk, governance, and complex organizational matters. His perspective is informed by decades of leadership across KPMG’s Audit, Tax, and Advisory practices, as well as extensive international experience spanning more than 25 countries. He previously served for many years as the leader of KPMG’s Dallas–Denver Advisory Practice.

 

Jarrod is deeply engaged in civic and community leadership service. He serves on the Board of the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum and is a member of the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas Audit & Ethics Committee and Finance Committee. He also serves on the Southern Methodist University Accounting Advisory Board, the Dallas Zoo Development Committee, and is a member of the Dallas Committee on Foreign Relations. In addition, Jarrod serves on the Board of Lakehill Preparatory School of Dallas.

 
He is active in the professional community as a member of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Institute of Internal Auditors.

 

Eugene eugene-koganB. Kogan is an award-winning Harvard thought leader and keynote speaker specializing in power strategies in negotiation and leadership. A member of KPMG’s Negotiation & Coaching Team, he teaches at Harvard Professional & Executive Development and has spent nearly two decades helping executives around the world navigate pivotal moments and make high-stakes strategic decisions. His work is grounded in rigorous research—including his co-authored book Mediation: Negotiation by Other Moves (Wiley, 2021)—and enriched by insights from global leaders such as Henry Kissinger, Condoleezza Rice, and Colin Powell. Through this lens, Dr. Kogan equips C-suite leaders and organizations with practical frameworks to build resilient, forward-thinking cultures that thrive amid complexity and change.
 

Dr. Kogan has worked extensively with public- and private-sector leaders across the United States, Asia, and the Middle East, including advising city mayors in Europe during the COVID-19 pandemic on team management and crisis communication. As an Executive Coach and startup mentor at Harvard Business School, he supports both senior leaders and early-stage founders in aligning strategy, strengthening influence, and unlocking high-impact opportunities. He holds a Ph.D. from Brandeis University, completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, and has executive education certifications in negotiation, mediation, and leadership from Harvard Law School’s Program on Negotiation.
