We will discuss The Garden of Evening Mists, by Tan Twan Eng. Malaya, 1951. Yun Ling Teoh, the scarred lone survivor of a brutal Japanese wartime camp, seeks solace among the jungle-fringed tea plantations of Cameron Highlands. There she discovers Yugiri, the only Japanese garden in Malaya, and its owner and creator, the enigmatic Aritomo, exiled former gardener of the emperor of Japan. Winner of the Man Asian Literary Prize, The Garden of Evening Mists is an “elegant and haunting novel of war, art and memory.”

For those who like to read ahead, the May book will be A Canticle for Leibowitz, by Walter M. Miller, Jr. Please note that the Book Club generally meets on the second Wednesday of each month.
