July Book Club Meeting
The July me
eting of the Book Club will be on Wednesday, July 12, at 7:30 p.m. at the home of Susan Bowman. We will discuss Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. The novel describes the travels of Charlie Marlow upstream to meet the ivory procurement agent, Kurtz. Preceded by his reputation as an emissary of progress, Kurtz has established himself as a god among the African natives. The story was adapted into the movie, Apocalypse Now.
The Book Club generally meets on the second Wednesday of each month. For those who like to read ahead, our August book will be Over the Edge of the World: Magellan's Terrifying Circumnavigation of the Globe, by Laurence Bergreen.
