POSTPONED - An HBS Club of Dallas Discussion: How Dallas can Move Forward with Positive Political Engagement

The HBS Club of Dallas invites members of the Harvard Club of Dallas to join them for a discussion with local leaders, moderated by club member and Former Dallas Mayor, Tom Leppert, on how our community can move on with positive political engagement.

Our country is in pain. The death of George Floyd and the disproportionate effect of Covid-19 on Americans of color have touched deep feelings in all of us, including anger, shame, fear, frustration, and confusion. The pandemic and raw exposure of the effects of racism are testing our businesses and other institutions. More than that, they are testing our character. George Floyd’s 6-year-old daughter, Gianna, said, "Daddy changed the world." I pray that she is proven right, but that depends on how each of us responds in our personal and professional lives.

I write you despite sensitivity that none of us want to hear from every organization about this moment in history. But to remain silent would in itself be to take a position. Moreover, the HBS Club of Dallas exists to share learning and to build personal relationships. We support each other to be our best selves and to contribute the skills we learned at HBS, including active listening and a constant focus toward solutions. We may disagree on specific answers, but we can agree that we are not the people we aspire to be, and on our potential to lead in our businesses, community, and country.

Our next opportunity to learn together is Webinar: "The Politics Industry: How Political Innovation Can Break Partisan Gridlock and Save Our Democracy", with Katherine Gehl and Michael Porter, June 10, 2020, 4:30 pm CDT. Fifteen minutes after that webinar ends, our Club will host a Zoom panel of local business leaders, moderated by Club member and former Mayor of Dallas, Tom Leppert. We will have audience participation and discuss how Dallas can move forward with positive political engagement.
