"Meet the Inaugural Dean of the Brand New School of Public Health at UTSW"
 

Pleassaad-omere join the Harvard and Yale medical communities and the Harvard and Yale Clubs of Dallas for a happy hour and an evening of networking and learning about the new UT Southwestern school of public health from the internationally-recognized epidemiologist Dr. Saad B. Omer, M.B.B.S., M.P.H., Ph.D., FIDSA, the Inaugural Dean of UTSW’s O’Donnell School of Public Health at UT Southwestern’s Medical Center.
 

UTSW’s School of Public Health has received a transformative $100 million gift from the O’Donnell Foundation, the largest gift to a School of Public Health at a public university in the U.S. Dr. Omer will discuss what led to the establishment of the UTSW School of Public Health, the vision and role in the community of this prestigious new School and what brought him to lead this golden opportunity for the Dallas, the national and the international medical communities.
 

Dr. Omer, former Director of Yale’s Institute for Global Health, as well as Associate Dean for Global Health Research with the Yale School of Medicine, also served as the Harvey and Kate Cushing Professor of Medicine in Infectious Diseases and Professor of Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases with the Yale School of Public Health.
 

Dr. Omer has conducted studies in the United States, Guatemala, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, South Africa and Australia. His research involves: the epidemiology of respiratory viruses, including influenza, RSV and SARS-Cov-2 (COVID-19); public health preparedness strategies to effectively respond to large emerging and reemerging infectious disease outbreaks; clinical trials to estimate efficacy of maternal and/or infant influenza, pertussis, polio, measles, and pneumococcal vaccines; trials to evaluate drug regimens to reduce mother-to-child transmission of HIV; and interventions to increase immunization coverage and acceptance.
