The December meeting of the Book Club will be on Wednesday, December 14, at 7:30 p.m. at the home of Elly Lindsay (1217 Sylvan Avenue, Dallas, TX 75208).  We will discuss The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton and The Giver by Lois Lowry, two Young Adult novels.  Both of these novels are very short, but everyone can read the one of their choice if two books is too many.  First published in 1967, The Outsiders is a story of peer pressure, rebellion, and identity centered on two rival groups of teens, the lower-class "outsider" Greasers and the more well-heeled, popular Socs (short for Socials); it is a heroic story of friendship and belonging filled with indelible, compelling characters.   The Giver is a haunting story about a boy who lives in a seemingly ideal, if colorless, world of conformity and contentment. Not until he’s given his life assignment as the Receiver of Memory does he begin to understand the dark, complex secrets behind his fragile community.  Please note that the Book Club generally meets on the second Wednesday of each month.
