HBS Club of Dallas - Professor McGinn Reception

Celebrating 50+ Years of Women at HBS. Reception with Presentation by Professor Kathleen L. McGinn, Cahners-Rabb Professor of Business Administration at HBS and Chair of Harvard Business School's Doctoral Programs

In the spring of 1972, as President Nixon signed Title IX into law, prohibiting discrimination in education on the basis of sex, HBS alumni fought against sex discrimination on a more local front. A small group of HBS women pushed the president and board of the Harvard Club of New York to allow female members. The opening of the Club to women offers a glimpse into what it takes to make change happen and provides perspective as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of women at HBS. Learning about the struggle of many to create change in the past offers lessons for those who push for positive changes for the under-served and under-recognized today. We'll discuss the reasons change is resisted in organizations and what people and organizations can do to help create positive change.

Kathleen L. McGinn is the Cahners-Rabb Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School and Chair of Harvard Business School's Doctoral Programs. Professor McGinn studies the role of interpersonal relationships and gender at work and in negotiations using both laboratory and field methodologies. Her current field research investigates these issues in U.S. professional service firms, among self-employed women in India, and in relation to health and welfare outcomes for young women in Zambia.
