Arts SIG event - Dvorak's "Rusalka"

The Metropolitan Opera's presentation of Dvorak's "Rusalka" at the Cinemark

On Saturday, February 8, at 11:55, the Metropolitan Opera will broadcast live from its New York stage Dvorak's "Rusalka," the most popular and finest of his operas, with America's reigning soprano, Renee Fleming, singing the title role. Rusalka is a wood nymph who decides she's in love with a human and wants to become human to consummate that love. She gets her wish, but as one might expect inopera, it does not go well. Here, as is often the case with Wagner, an overwrought libretto becomes heart-rending tragedy when a master sets it to music.

The Art SIG will meet at Cinemark 17, Webb Chapel and 635, to watch this performance and afterwards will assemble at a local caravansary to discuss the performance and opera in general.
